I think the last time when i went for NDP was in my primary school days, its one of those compulsory excursion for all primary 5 kids as part of the national education program =) Frankly i cant recall what exactly happened, all i could remember was we sang songs after songs before the program starts proper and it was in kallang stadium.
Just last night, I went for my second NDP in 25 years. Eugene's mum gotten the tickets and so we decided to re-connect with the our nation. I am not sure if I am the only one but Aug 9 is probably the only day i stand so proud as a Singaporean... looking at the parade and achievements by Singapore over the years, with the parade happening at the prime area of Singapore where skyscraper and many MNC offices stands..... one cant help but forget all the ugliness of Singaporean and sing aloud all the nationa l day songs... feeling every single line of it... i can get so patriotic that if a war is gonna happen immediately, i will go fight it for Singapore.. haha.....
The way to the parade is pretty well organized, no squeezing, no rush... everything proceed with a breeze. We were welcomed by some very friendly army boys, directed to collect our super duper heavy goodie bag and then made our way to our Yellow sector seats. The seats were a little cramp but i guess that happens when they try to have as many people to have the chance to watch this parade. Seating there waiting for the parade to start is a little torturing with the heat and humidity... we then tried to kill time by exploring the goodie bag=) The bag is a recycled bag that comes in 7 designs and has a mini Singapore Flag, a national day magazine, voucher booklet, flag "clapper", poncho, 2 bottles of water, a super fun box with wet and dry tissue, hand sanitizer, collar pin, garbbage bag, tattoo and kong guan biscuits! Prior to the start, we the choir sang" I've gotta feeling" .... i personally do find it a little funny with this selection of song but well... i think "tonight's gonna be a good night... tonight's gonna be a good good night" is becoming.
The program is cool, i especially like the parade and contigent segment, i got smitten to whoever the parade commander is, always amazed by the control, the voice, the volume.... i like! then the aerial display which also deafens me is also spectecular....... i like anything military =) love love love!!!!!!
As for the rest of the night, i was busy snapping photos and most of what i saw was through the view finder..... the fireworks were not bad but i believe it will be at its best on the actual day...
Happy Birthday Singapore! I love you but i still like to retire somewhere else =)
